The regions’ Youth riders in Go-Ride clubs have had the opportunity to access a number of track coaching sessions at Manchester Velodrome over the last 12 months and the sessions are certainly starting to pay off.
The coaching sessions operate in a cluster format with all of the North East’s Go-Ride clubs coming together, something that is not just beneficial to the riders but also the coaches in their clubs, it’s a great development opportunity for everyone.
The first Go-Ride Track Cup was held at Manchester Velodrome on Sunday 4th November 2012, an event which saw the regions’ riders compete against 5 other regions and clusters who have all had the opportunity to experience similar coaching sessions delivered by their respective regions/areas.
Riders were split into 3 ability based groups so all riders were competing against riders of a similar experience to their own from the other regions.
The event was closely fought and saw the lead change hands a number of times throughout the event with fantastic performances from all of the North East riders securing a win for the region in a competition which right down to the final 2 events.
It was fantastic to see all of the regions’ riders, a number of whom had never raced on the track before, putting everything learnt in the coaching sessions into practice and coming out with a great result.
The North East Team consisted of:
- Patrick Lally: Onelife Racing
- Joe Wilson: Stockton Wheelers
