British Cycling has suspended all of its sanctioned, cycling activities, until 30th June 2020.
Consequently the region has lost events across the spectrum, from the Tour de Yorkshire finishing in Redcar to our regional Youth and XC Series.
What happens after that date is uncertain:
- This suspension may be extended beyond the end of June
- It may be partially lifted to allow some controlled activity (regional circuit racing?)
- Cycle sport events may resume, but could be limited by social and volunteer issues
The North East regional team have been working with event organisers and volunteers to create a flexible calendar of events for July, August and September.
There are now no road events planned for July.
The Ferryhill Wheelers 2 Day had been pushed back into August.
The Stockton Cycling Festival is cancelled.
The early season Muckle Road Race and the Sloan Trophy have been rescheduled for September.
As mentioned, there are several issues to overcome before road racing can resume, including the
availability of the volunteers required (AMS, NEG, Commissaires, drivers, marshals, first aid, etc.)
There are rounds of the Prima Hetton Circuit Series scheduled, for July, August and September.
We are working on additional dates at Middlesbrough Sports Village, and hope to be able to run an expanded calendar of events.
MTB & Cyclo-x
The cyclo-x season is expected to start mid-September as normal.
(The road season will not be extended beyond the third weekend in September, to allow this.)
The only MTB event left on the calendar is the HSBC UK National Marathon Championships & MTB Sportive Rides at Kielder on the 8th August.
Other off-road events will be scheduled as the situation allows.
Middlesbrough Track League has been suspended, ready to return in July or August.
If the weather is favourable, we are keen to promote some autumn Track League racing / training.
The National Youth Omnium Series is being rescheduled for the Autumn, and we hope to host a round at Middlesbrough.
The North Region BMX 2020 event at Hartlepool is cancelled, and we are liaising with the Series organisers. Regional sessions will return as soon as activities resume.
With all league racing cancelled, regional sessions will return as soon as activities resume.
