Great Britain Cycling Team Workshops

Throughout November, December and January, Foundation Coach Joe Malik will be running three workshops for riders and coaches with regards to the GBCT pathway, providing insight into the racing pathway, recommended training and planning, and roller and turbo session content.

 

Workshop 1 – Racing Pathway

When – Wednesday 16th November 6:30-8:30pm

Where – Durham County Hall – DH1 5UL

Who for – Youth A, B and C Riders (Years 2000 -2005)

What should riders bring – Note pad and paper

Content – This workshop will discuss the racing pathway, the difference between local, regional and national races.

 

Workshop 2 – Training and Planning

When – Wednesday 14th December 2016 6:30-8:30pm

Where – Durham County Hall – DH1 5UL

Who for – Youth A and 2nd year B Riders (Years 2000-2003)

What should riders bring – Note pad and paper

Content – This workshop will discuss the specifics of what training riders should be doing, how often they should be training, how to plan training and races, which events they will be prioritising moving forward and different types of intensity and volumes of training.

 

Workshop 3 – Rollers and Turbo

When – Tuesday 17th January 2017 6:30-8:30pm

Where – Durham County Hall – DH1 5UL

Who for – Youth A and 2nd year B Riders (Years 2001-2003)

What should riders bring – Note pad and paper, rollers, turbo and a road bike

Content – This workshop will cover the difference between rollers and turbo trainers and how they can be used in relation to training needs. Riders will get the chance to see and experience the British Cycling world class warm up and take part in other training sessions.

WInter Road CCT sessions from October 2016.

The winter Club Clusters of Training (CCT) sessions will start on Thursday 6th October 2016 at Prissick. The session will be held weekly and are open to riders who will be Youth B, Youth A or Junior in 2017, are intending to race and want to improve their technical, tactical and physical abilities. The  cost of each session is £3. Please be ready to ride at 7 pm. Sessions finish at 9pm.

We would also like to encourage coaches interested in contributing to the sessions to come along.

Middlesbrough Velodrome Vacancy & Meeting Invite

Casual Track Coach Vacancy

Are you a British Cycling Qualified Track coach who enjoys coaching? An opportunitiy has arisen for some paid delivery at Middlesbrough Velodrome.

The Casual Track Coach role is required to cover a busy timetable of evening and weekend sessions at Middlesbrough Velodrome, delivering planned coaching sessions for novice through to advanced Youth and Adult riders.

Delivery will include the four stage accreditation process; beginner, improver, intermediate and advanced, assigning and adjusting a fleet of track hire bikes for riders prior to sessions when necessary.

The duties will also include gauging and meeting demand to provide SQT style sessions, facilitating accredited riders to practice racing efforts and techniques.

Another key task will be recording session registers, rider data, and reporting back to key stakeholders such as Middlesbrough Council and British Cycling on a monthly basis in addition to maintaining own timesheets and claim forms.

Please note, this description is not exhaustive and sessions may vary as determined by an evolving timetable.

 

There are a maximum of 13 hours per week, these hours can be divided between a number of casual coaches, so please don’t be put off if you are not available for the full 13 hours per week. The hours are funded through a partnership with British Cycling. Further details will be provided at informal interview stage.

Middlesbrough Sports Village

User Group Meeting

There will be a meeting held at Middlesbrough Sports Village at 7pm on Monday 12th September 2016. Members of North East based Cycling clubs are invited to attend and contribute to the formation of an active steering group. 

The aim of the meeting is to engage those who currently use or have plans to use the purpose built Cycling Facilities on site, which are the Closed Road Circuit and the Outdoor Velodrome. Re establishing the group previously known 'Prissick Cycling Association' is seen as a key step to ensure the facilities benefit Cyclists of all ages and abilities throughout the region.
