Hamsterley Trailblazers Celebrate Double Award

This weekend saw Hamsterley Trailblazers celebrate receiving the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service and achieve Go-Ride Clubmark Status

The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service is the highest award given to local volunteer groups across the UK to recognise outstanding work done in their own communities. The committed club volunteers and members were presented with the prestigious award at Hamsterley Forest on Saturday. After the presentation, the club resumed their hard work to complete the new trail ‘K-Line’ taking them well into the evening, followed by an early start on the Sunday to host a race of the North East XC series.

Earlier in the week, and joining a select group of cycling clubs across the country, Hamsterley Trailblazers fulfilled the necessary criteria to achieve British Cycling’s Go-Ride Clubmark status and now holds this prestigious accreditation. Clubmark is a universally acknowledged cross sport scheme introduced by Sport England for community sports clubs, which recognises high standards in welfare, equity, coaching and club management.

Clubs are required to submit a portfolio of evidence to show that they meet the relevant criteria, including suitably qualified volunteers, regular coaching sessions and a robust club development plan. Throughout the application process, Hamsterley Trailblazers demonstrated an environment that ensures member welfare and promotes cycling as a lifelong sport.

Lorna Bennett, British Cycling Regional Development Manager for the North East said of the achievements:

“My congratulations go out to Hamsterley Trailblazers on achieving both of these awards in the same week. The coaches and volunteers work extremely hard to provide opportunities for people of all ages to get involved in cycling, and we look forward to continue supporting them in the future as I’m sure that the club will go on to do more great things."

Hamsterley Trailblazers run regular coaching sessions and new riders are more than welcome to turn up and have a go. For further information please visit the club’s social media page:
