This summer, thousands of young people will be inspired by watching a historic home Olympic Games and it is vital that we encourage those who are enthused to get involved in the sport of cycling in the North East. At the recent Go-Ride conferences, British Cycling launched the concept of the Go-Ride Games which will provide new participants with a taste of cycle sport in order to kick start Go-Ride’s legacy of London 2012 within England and more locally in the North East.
British Cycling are offering free resources, guidance and support to clubs who sign-up to deliver a Go-Ride Games event in the period 11th-19th August 2012. This will include both pre-event resources such as promotional guides, event ideas, poster and leaflet templates, as well as event resources such as medals and t-shirts.
School clubs are also encouraged to link with their local community club to assist with the delivery of events and to encourage their students to attend their local Go-Ride Games event.
All the Go-Ride Games events will be published on the British Cycling North East and national websites so young people inspired by the Olympics will know where to go to get involved.
Within the North East it is already clear that clubs are keen to work together on this programme with 7 clubs signed up as of 19th April 2012, however it is important that there is good regional coverage with at least one event in each area of the region. This will ensure that during the Olympics, British Cycling are able to signpost interested new riders to a club that is local to them, thus increasing the number of local opportunities for riders in the North East.
British Cycling Go-Ride clubs signed up for the Go-Ride Games so far: Hetton Hawks, Newcastle Phoenix, One Life Racing, Stockton Wheelers, Tyneside Vagabonds, Hamsterley Trailblazers and Barnesbury CC.
British Cycling North East has relaunched its website!
