Job description:

Tyne & Wear Sport are looking for an enthusiastic and organised individual who is committed to working within a small team who are dedicated to reduce levels of inactivity in Tyne & Wear.

This post within Tyne & Wear Sport will primarily be responsible for contributing towards the successful delivery of a range of projects and programmes designed to reduce physical inactivity generally and especially within under-represented groups where participation in sport / levels of physical activity is particularly low.  A key part of your role will include having the responsibility for organising and promoting activity programmes for workplaces, particularly targeting those employees that are inactive, and supporting the organisation of all Tyne & Wear Sport events.

The successful applicant will be committed to providing high levels of customer service, as the nature of the work involves working closely with a wide range of partner organisations, and to working with and supporting a team of staff committed to increasing participation.

The successful applicant will have some experience of successfully organising and delivering sport/physical activity related programmes, along with excellent communication and inter-personal skills, and high levels of enthusiasm.  Ideally, they will also have a sound knowledge of the sport and/or health sectors and experience of organising projects / programmes of work.

BCNE Coaching Bursary Fund

To support our North East Regional club network to qualify new coaches or further develop existing coaches, the British Cycling North East Board are pleased to announce a BCNE Coaching Bursary Fund is now open.

Owing thanks to a generous donation which was matched by the board, there are 10 x £100 bursaries to apply for.

Regional MTB activity in the north of the region

To support ongoing regional development and accessibility of Regional Coaching Clusters, club coaches and volunteers are invited to attend a meeting to discuss starting Regional Mountain Bike Coaching activity in the North of the region.


The meeting is taking place on:

Wednesday 18th April 2018

6.30pm start at Kirkley Cycles, Thorneyford Farm, Ponteland, NE20 0JA.


Newcastle Go-Ride coaches and current MTB Cluster coaches will be attending and anyone else interested in supporting the north of the region MTB sessions in 2018 are welcome to attend.


An update on the MTB specific performance pathway programme will be provided along with forming a plan for the sessions going forward.

For anyone who is unfamiliar with the venue, a short tour will be available to showcase the opportunities for sessions.


Topics to discuss are:

  • Programme start date & venue arrangements                                                                         
  • Coaches pool / rota – to understand who is available on which weeks, and identify areas of CPD for the volunteers
  • Online Entry – to fall in line with all other clusters, which creates a database of riders and allows the attendance records to contribute towards selection criteria
