The North East Region has two national councillors, Peter Harrison and Steve Tunmore
We have an exciting opportunity for a cycling enthusiast to join us as a Recreation Officer working within the North East and in particular the city of Newcastle.
In this role of a Recreation Officer you will be accountable for:
  • Maintaining and developing new partnerships and relationships with the local stakeholders and communities within the designated area, providing British Cycling with the most effective routes to market to deliver its recreation programme.
  • Operating within a designated area to coordinate and support the effective local delivery of the recreation programmes and working closely with the Recreation team at British Cycling Headquarters providing input to the ongoing evaluation of the operational model.
  • Supporting and building capacity in the volunteer network of area coordinators, leaders, and champions enhancing engagement alongside providing opportunities to share best practice.


  • Working with other key agencies and cycling organisations to develop the recreation pathway with a clear focus on raising awareness of the work of British Cycling, growing and diversifying participation and supporting more people to cycle more frequently.

You’ll build and sustain strong effective working relationships at all levels across British Cycling, in particular the recreation team. You’ll identify areas for development and develop potential recommendations overcoming barriers and developing relationships. What you need is:
We are keen to hear from candidates with sound knowledge of cycling and/or sport and the associated physical activity delivery.  Candidates should be aware of the current developments in cycling in terms of the transport, health and recreational agendas and should have a track record in partnership working and development where partnership programme and project delivery can be demonstrated.
This is a profession which is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check will be required.

The North East Regional Board of British Cycling hereby gives notice that the 2018 Annual General Meeting will be held on Monday 10th September 2018 commencing promptly at 1930 hrs at The Marriot Hotel, MetroCentre, Gatehead, NE11 9XF

 ATTENDEES Affiliated clubs are entitled to send a number of delegates according to British Cycling regulations, as follows:-

  • Up to 9 British Cycling members = 1 delegate/vote
  • 10 - 24 British Cycling members = 2 delegates/votes
  • 25 - 39 British Cycling members = 3 delegates/votes
  • 40 - 54 British Cycling members = 4 delegates/votes
  • 55 + British Cycling members = 5 delegates/votes

Any individual British Cycling member may attend the AGM and speak.

All those attending will be asked to produce their British Cycling membership card on arrival.

The regional board reserves the right not to admit any person who cannot produce the card.


Only club delegates may vote, in accordance with British Cycling regulations. Individual BC members are unable to vote. The chair may allow a block vote for any posts which are uncontested. Voting will be on a simple majority with the chair having a second or casting vote.

MOTIONS If any club or BC member wishes to invite the regional board to include any item on the agenda full details of the item must be submitted to the regional secretary by email no later than 12 noon on Monday 3rd September 2018.

The regional board reserves the right not to include any such item on the agenda.


All nominations for appointment as National Councillor must be submitted to the regional secretary by email by 12 noon on Thursday, 6th September 2018.

Candidates may be invited to give a short verbal presentation to the meeting before voting takes place. Nominations will not be accepted for any post from the floor of the meeting. The regional board is keen to see a good mix of people on the regional board so as to have representation from a wide range of cycling interests, a better balance between male and female members and all sections of the cycling community.
