The Team Managers and Coaches have now been selected for the Track, Road and MTB Inter Regional Championships, which all take place in September this year.

The Road Team Manager is Ian Murray and the coach is Tony Hodgson

The MTB Team Manager is Alex McLean and the coach is Dave McLean

The period for riders to express their interest inbeing selected for the events is now closed - there has been great interest in this with 30 different riders from 9 different clubs throwiing their hat into the ring. This shows that Youth riding in the regions is continuing to grow in strength and there will be stiff competition for places this year.

The teams will be selected against the criteria previously published and announced on the following dates

  • Track - 14th July
  • MTB - 18th August
  • Road - 1st September

Team Managers will be contacting riders shortly as they start their preparation towards securing selection and representing the region in these events.

Grass Track Racing reaches the North East

The new North Riding Grass Track League is now up and running in Richmond, North Yorkshire.

A series of 12 events for youth, junior and senior riders, every Monday evening from 5th May to 21st July 2014.

The race format is similar to a standard track league, with a mixture of handicapped and scratch, sprint and endurance events. Under 12's ride on geared freewheel bikes, all others age groups need fixed gear track bikes.

The league does have a number of grass track bikes with flat pedals to loan out. You just need
to take your own preferred pedals.

There are no BC licence points available as yet, but there is a league points system with medals and trophies at the end of the series.

Entry on the day, fees are £3 for under 12's. £5 for 12 – 18 year olds. £8 for seniors.

Under 12 racing starts at 6.30pm, other events start at 7pm.

Why not give it a try? It's a great way to experience track racing and will certainly improve your bike handling skills and power.

Youth Track Omnium News

In preparation for the 2014 UK Schools Games, BCNE is hoping to create a North East Team atmosphere at the 3 rounds of the National Youth Track Omnium (Northern Region).

At the Knowsley and Scunthorpe events, the North East will have a team area with a gazebo, table and chairs for any North East youth riders to use as their base for the day. At Manchester, we will have a similar setup (without the gazebo obviously). We are aiming to encourage some team bonding and it may also be of help to the newer riders/parents to have some familiar faces around.

There will also be a NE coach on hand for any guidance or advice.

It would be great to see all the North East track riders getting to know each other a little better and sharing experiences, so we hope to see you there.

Knowsley    18th May.
Scunthorpe 14th June.
Manchester 15th June.
