Sponsorship Opportunity: North East XC MTB Series

The North East XC Mountain Bike Series is a new but growing annual series of 8 Mountain Bike Events which take place throughout the North East of England.

The series was introduced in 2012 with the following aims:

1.To provide competitive XC Mountain Bike experience to riders from across the region, enabling many to make the step up to the national stage

2.To support youth and junior riders at national series, national championship and inter regional championship events by:

a.Providing quality competition experience regionally

b.Raising funds to support riders’ national racing ambitions

In 2013 the series attracted 229 riders which represented substantial growth from the year one figure of 130.

Further significant growth for 2014 is anticipated as the series continues to gather momentum and the profile of the series because more widely known. To ensure continued growth and to continue to meet the series aims, the events need to maintain financial viability. As the series grows the costs rise, and to maintain low prices for the competitor financial support is required.

The Opportunity

This is a great opportunity for sponsors to get exposure to cyclists in the North East and there are wider publicity opportunities attached to the opportunity by way of being associated with Britain’s most successful Olympic Sport of recent years. Cycling is booming in the UK and now is the time to get involved.

For the series sponsor, the brand will be listed on the British Cycling website under each event, in event reports and results, on the British Cycling North East website, in all marketing materials and in the printed British Cycling Race Calendar sent to all Gold Members of the Governing Body nationally.

The series sponsor logo will be used in all publicity and the sponsor name will feature in every event title.

There are additional opportunities to brand banners at each event which line the start/finish straight which all riders pass every lap and where all spectators will gather at the end of races and for podium presentations.

There are also further opportunities to brand the course marking tape which is used to mark out the course at every event, in addition to the series registration tent which is used as the race HQ for every race.

The series organiser will work with the sponsor to help get maximum exposure and help with all opportunities.

The Cost of Title Sponsorship

The North East XC MTB Series is looking to continue the growth of the sport in the region and as such is looking for a partner to be associated with the success of the series.

For a one year title sponsorship the cost is £3,000

Sainsbury's School Games 2013 Report

The North East School Games team acquitted themselves very well over three days of high quality and fiercely contested racing from 13th – 15th September. The overall classification was based on the points score of the boys and girl’s team combined and doesn’t show up the many great performances from the team. Ours was a relatively young team in comparison to the other English regions, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland and was made up of:

Girls: Kirsty Boak, Samantha Verrill, Jess Watts (Marton RT), and Rhianna Stoves (Derwentside CC)
Boys: Mathew Worton (Blackhawk), William Turnbull, Ralf Hodgson (Marton RT) and Jake Dobson (Newcastle Phoenix)

The games hosted several different sports, but it was noticeable from the off that the cycling teams would have little time to take in much of the Athlete’s Village atmosphere…….after all, few of the other sports wished to join us for breakfast at 5.45am each day! Taking into account the travelling and preparation for the competitions, the team was racking up 14 hour days. No-one had any energy left for socialising and early-to-bed was the order of each day.

The races were based in two schools on the outskirts of Sheffield, with the University of Sheffield as the location for the Athlete’s Village. Here are the highlights of our team’s performance day by day.
